Preventive Medicine Associates is directed by Irving A. Cohen, M.D.,M.P.H., F.A.C.P.M.. It was founded by Dr. Cohen to allow Kansans to obtain guidance from a well-qualified Preventive Medicine physician.

Dr. Cohen is a Fellow of The American College of Preventive Medicine. He is Board-Certified by The American Board of Preventive Medicine in the specialty of General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Following medical school, Dr. Cohen focused his career on the prevention of disease. He received his Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University. He completed a Preventive Medicine residency at Hopkins and went on to become the Chief Resident of Preventive Medicine at Johns Hopkins, supervising other physicians in the largest non-governmental Preventive Medicine program in the nation.

Dr. Cohen has recently made professional presentations about obesity and weight-loss at local, regional, national and international scientific venues. These have included:

In the past, Dr. Cohen has held adjoint teaching appointments at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City in the Department of the History of Medicine and in the Department of Preventive Medicine. He has also held adjunct teaching appointments at the State University of New York School of Medicine in Buffalo in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and the Department of Medicine. He served as an adjunct faculty at The Graduate School in Washington, D.C. in the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Mathematics. In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Cohen is also a Fellow of the American Society for Addiction Medicine and is Board-Certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Cohen currently resides in Shawnee County and has called Kansas home since 1991.
